You know, there’s a very simple solution should President Obama’s pending Executive Order disallow federal contractors whose religion requires them to hate on the LGBT: stop asking for, and receiving, federal money. Stop being a federal contractor, and discriminate to your heart’s content.
But, in the meantime — and in the penumbra of the very recent “narrow” Vatican III decision from Cardinal Alito — Pastor Rick™ Warren, whose history with this president has, um, precedence, has weighed in on the need for his federal contractor friends to be able to discriminate against Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender employees, clients, neighbors, and donors:
The pastor who caused an uproar from LGBT advocates when President Obama asked him to speak at his inauguration is now asking the president to exempt those with religious beliefs from an executive order banning federal contractors from discriminating against LGBT people.
Rick Warren has joined forces with the head of Catholic Charities and others in asking President Obama to “include a religious exemption in your planned executive order addressing federal contractors and LGBT employment policies.” The Atlantic first reported on the letter earlier Wednesday.
I’m not sure who the letter is supposed to not “antagonize,” because I am. Antagonized.
Although The Atlantic reported that the person who organized the letter, Michael Wear, said that the letter is not “antagonistic,” he added that, following this week’s Supreme Court decision in Hobby Lobby, “the administration does have a decision to make whether they want to recalibrate their approach to some of these issues.”
Asked about the letter, White House spokesman Shin Inouye repeated a line from recent days when asked about the order, saying only, “I don’t have any details to share about the specifics of an Executive Order.”
SCOTUS decisions, even when called “narrow” by Cardinal Alito and his All-Male Revue, are only actually narrow if you’re wearing blinders. Those of us who aren’t wearing blinders can see its “startling breadth.”
Pastor Rick™, I’ve known federal contractors. And I can tell you that the only belief a federal contractor has isn’t religious at all — federal contractors only believe in more federal money. And if a federal contractor has to stop hating Teh Gays to get more, it will.
